Advanced Bionics Conference

The week of January 26, TBHBC had the privilege of hosting a 2 day cochlear implant training course for audiologists, given by the Advanced Bionics Corporation. The rigorous course trained these audiologists using real life scenarios and actual programming equipment. Each audiologist had numerous opportunities to do cochlear implant mapping, programming, and troubleshooting. TBHBC senior audiologist, Dr. Heather Riikonen gave a presentation on counseling and working with cochlear implant patients. Dr. Loren Bartels gave a power point presentation that addressed the range of problems for which a cochlear implant is beneficial and covered a number of problems for which special medical management is often necessary.

Twelve audiologists from the east coast were in attendance, along with three of our seven audiologists. All reported that the training was interactive, highly educational, and would greatly assist them in working with cochlear implant recipients. Kevin Vukovich, Jenifer Feldman, and Lori Zapf from Advanced Bionics provided a wealth of training information.
